What is a first look and why should we want to have one? Some couples prefer to see each other at the ceremony for the first time. Traditionally this is how weddings have always happened. In the ever-changing world of weddings, you may want to consider seeing each other first- here is why!
A first look is an intimate moment between just the bride and groom when they see each other for the first time. It allows you to spend a few sacred minutes together before you enter the busiest day of your lives. It also means if you end up ugly crying, your hair and makeup team can fix you up! 😊
Start your day of seeing each other when you are dressed to the nines. This way you won't spend the day stressing about the ceremony. You will be able to wake up and enjoy the day together. You will also likely remember more aspects of the ceremony since you won't be so nervous walking down the aisle.
Since you will be able to take most (if not all) of your photos during the day, you can actually enjoy cocktail hour and appetizers with your guests. This eliminates the need for a receiving line, which is a whole other topic! Having a first look can also decrease stress post-ceremony since you won't be trying to rush off for photos when all of your guests want to greet you.
Most limo companies charge a minimum of 4 hours, you can actually use that time to go around to all of your photo locations, rather than paying for it and spending 20 minutes in the limo to go to the ceremony. You will increase your guest experience by having all events back to back rather than having guests incur a large wait time between the ceremony and the reception.
Doing a first look wasn't an option when I got married over a decade ago, although if it was, we would have absolutely done one. There are certain new wedding traditions that I could do without, but doing a first look is an absolute benefit in my opinion.
