Who are you, what you do and who you serve?
My name is Bennett Murphy-Mills and I am a wedding & elopement photographer with a decade of professional photography experience. My goal is to capture photos you can FEEL… imagery that tells a story and evokes emotion. I'm based out of Manitoba, British Columbia and PEI. I have family in all three so I frequently travel & work in each province! I'm obsessed with the mountains, the ocean, the forest, and the prairies. All things earthy resonate with me. I absolutely LOVE to travel and am available for work worldwide! So YES, I am 100% down to tag along and third wheel you and your honey on your destination wedding or adventure elopement!
What services do you offer?
I specialize in wedding & elopement photography (local and destination)! I also offer all inclusive helicopter elopement packages out in Vancouver, BC! And I LOVE to photograph families, pregnant mamas, newborns, proposals, boudoir, equestrian, business branding content, and more!
How did you get started in the wedding industry, and what inspired you to become a Photographer?
From the time I was a kid, I always had a camera in my hand – whether it was my Mom’s old film cameras or our family's trusty VHS camcorder. I found immense joy in capturing the moments and memories of our family. As proof, there are countless photos of me as young as 4 or 5 years old running around holding a camera! My passion in photography continued to develop all the way through my adolescent years. As soon as I graduated from high school, I knew that photography wasn't just a hobby for me – it was my calling. I wasted no time and dove straight into starting my own photography business, eager to turn my passion into a profession.
What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry and serving couples on their special day?
What I enjoy most is the privilege of being entrusted to document one of the most significant days in a couple's life. Witnessing their love story unfold, capturing raw emotions, and creating timeless memories that they will look back on for a lifetime is immensely fulfilling for me.
What do you believe is the most important consideration when couples are choosing a Photographer?
I believe the most important consideration is finding a photographer whose style resonates with their vision and personality. Beyond technical expertise, it's crucial for couples to connect with their photographer on a personal level to ensure an enjoyable experience on their wedding day since their photographer will be around ALL day with them and their guests!
What is the ideal timeline for couples to book your services in advance of their wedding day?
Ideally, couples should reach out to me as soon as they've finalized their wedding date and venue. Popular wedding dates tend to fill up 1-2 years in advance, so securing a photographer early ensures availability. In fact, couples can even reach out to me prior to booking their venue if they want to ensure they get a date with me – I'm more than happy to send them my availability for their preferred month/year (if they’re flexible on date, of course)!
What is the best piece of advice you would offer to couples planning their wedding?
My best advice would be that your wedding day isn't about people-pleasing your guests! It's about YOU. It’s the day you marry your person, and you are inviting your loved ones to be apart of it. Stay true to yourselves throughout the planning process and prioritize what’s important to you as a couple.
Can you share your favorite wedding trend or design idea that you're currently excited about?
One trend I'm particularly excited about is the rise of “non-traditional weddings”. For example; eloping just the two of you and then throwing a “post elopement party” or “wedding celebration” a few weeks or months later to celebrate with all your family & friends. Or hosting a micro-wedding on a boat tour! Or doing a brunch wedding in the morning with a breakfast buffet meal afterwards! Or getting married on a beach and then throwing an after party in your backyard! These smaller gatherings and unique experiential weddings allow couples to focus on what’s truly important (their marriage!) and to celebrate with their loved ones in a fun and unique way that is true to them!
How do you stand out?
Creating an atmosphere of comfortability and trust is soooo important to me as a professional photographer. I promise to make you feel incredibly at ease in front of the camera – to the point where you might even forget you’re being photographed! You can fully trust me to capture your day in a genuine and authentic way, ensuring we capture all the important must-have photos as well as the beautiful little moments in between. My focus lies in creating timeless photography that transcends passing trends and truly reflects what the day FELT like.
